Labioplasty (labiaplasty), also known as labial reduction, vaginal lip reduction, or labia rejuvenation is a procedure to decrease the size and improve the appearance of enlarged, hypertrophic or asymmetrical labia minora. The enlarged labia causes some women to experience discomfort with pinching or pulling during certain activities, or with some clothing. Sometimes childbirth may cause the labia to become stretched and enlarged, and reconstruction after childbirth may become necessary. Labioplasty can reduce this discomfort and enlargement with a simple outpatient procedure to create a smaller, thinner, more comfortably sized and shaped labia minora. The motivation for labiaplasty surgery may be for aesthetic (appearance) reasons or for functional reasons. Surgical intervention may be able to help correct both concerns.

The treatment

A surgical procedure to reduce the size of the
labia and give a well-designed, more sculpted appearance can be performed. Usually this involves reducing the size of the labia minora but correction of asymmetry (difference between both sides) can also be achieved to restore balance. Enlargement of the labia majora can be also corrected. The operation
is performed under a general anesthetic and patients usually stay overnight although some patients opt for for Day Case surgery. Plastic Surgeon at Lesprit Medical Clinic only uses dissolvable sutures and these disperse within 3 weeks.

The benefits

Labial reduction surgery results in a neat, sculpted looking appearance of your vagina, improved comfort with the additional major benefit of improved self-esteem and confidence.

Duration of Surgery

The surgery can take anything up to 2 hours depending on the complexity and severity of the problem.

The complications

As with any medical procedure, complications can occur following surgery and patients need to be fully aware of their safety. Plastic Surgeon at Lesprit Medical Clinic does his utmost to minimise
the possible complication associated with the procedure. You will be advised during your consultation on the most common complications and possible adverse effects following your procedure.

After Surgery

You will be able to shower the day after leaving hospital and then use a hair-dryer on a warm setting. It is a good idea to lay flat for the first few days after surgery and rest. Exposing this area is also ideal as is avoiding tight underwear.

The recovery

Your recovery period and post-operative care will be explained to you in detail during your consultation. The recommendations will be specifically tailored to your individual case and type of surgery carried out. You will be advised about basic steps to take such as taking or avoiding certain medication, sleeping position, driving, exercise or time off work, make up and other procedure-specific care.

The outcome

This operation has a very high patient satisfaction rate and the recovery is rapid.

What does it involve?

The procedure is usually performed under a general anesthetic (with you asleep). Patients may elect for this to be performed as a day case or as an overnight stay.

What are the benefits?

Labial reduction surgery results in a “neater”, sculpted looking appearance of your vagina.
In addition, many women experience an improvement in their sex life following surgery.

Important Notice

Specialist Plastic Surgeon at Lesprit Medical Clinic strongly advises you stop smoking prior to surgery as smoking can greatly impair your ability to heal and increase complication rates. Nutritional supplements, anticoagulant medication and anti-inflammatory drugs, (like Brufen, Voltaren, etc.), or any other blood thinning drug which increases the bleeding should be stopped prior to surgery unless otherwise instructed.
